As the first female CEO of a British food retailer, Jo oversees the day-to-day operations of Co-op’s food business, part of the Co-operative Group.

The judging panel outlined Jo’s role in boosting profits and sales for the Co-op’s retail arm and achieving over 4 years of like-for-like growth. Additionally, she has led on innovative trials to take Co-op food online – trialling delivery methods with Deliveroo and AI robots, boosting sales in test stores - as well as her work in making stores more sustainable.

Jo has established a new not-for-profit women’s network, Grocery Girls. It aims to nurture talent, widen people’s networks and develop new business partnerships to aid this. It has over 500 senior members and aims to attract female leaders and those who aspire to a more senior role from all grocery businesses, including supermarkets, manufacturers and their suppliers. It offers business women a forum to network and meet like-minded individuals and share best practice. The organisation aims to help change attitudes, represent women as visible role models wanting to talk about their experiences, as well as grow and retain talented women within the grocery industry.

Sherry Coutu, CBE is a serial social entrepreneur who serves on the boards of companies, charities, and universities. Sherry also co-created Founders4Schools and Workfinder.

By building smart connections with over 3,000 partners including teachers, parents and leaders of the business community, its social purpose is to help all young people in the UK be well-informed about their future options, motivated to succeed and equipped to lead enterprising lives.

 

The judging panel was impressed with the social impact that Sherry has made through the Founders4Schools platform so far, which has supported over 900,000 Student-Employer Encounters in the classroom or workplace and nearly 290,000 students.

Monika Walser est PDG et co-propriétaire de l’entreprise de Sede AG depuis le 2 avril 2014. Originaire d'Argovie, Monika Walser a commencé sa formation en 1982 en tant que couturière dans le domaine exigeant de la haute couture. Sa formation a été enrichie par un diplôme d'enseignement à Baldegg, Lucerne. Elle est titulaire de plusieurs Masters tels que « Science in Rhetoric & Technical Communication », « Executive Master in Management Communication & Leadership », « Executive Master specialised in Telecommunications & Change Management » ainsi que « Executive Master of Business Adiministration in Leadership and Ethics ».

Elle a débuté sa carrière en tant que propriétaire et directrice générale chez Cassiopeia Trend AG en 1994. De 2000 à 2004, Monika Walser a occupé le poste de responsable de la communication chez diAx, entreprise de télécommunications nouvellement créée, et après sa vente chez TDC Switzerland AG/Sunrise. De 2005 à 2009, elle a occupé les postes de CCO, de responsable des ressources humaines, ainsi que de directeur général adjoint d'Etrans AG. Elle a également fondé Swissgrid AG qui a intégré les actifs d'Etrans AG. Au cours de cette période, elle a été désignée à l’UCTE (Union for the Coordination of Transmission of Electricity, en Europe à Bruxelles) en tant que chargée de la communication et des questions politiques.

C'est à partir de ces projets qu'elle a fondé Waega-Group AG à Zurich en 2009 avec deux autres partenaires. Cette société est notamment mandatée par l’assurance maladie Sanitas, Orior AG ou du zoo de Zurich. De 2009 à mars 2014, Monika Walser a été PDG du fabricant suisse de sacs et accessoires Freitag lab AG. Depuis janvier 2016, elle est PDG et déléguée du conseil d'administration de de Ligno AG.

Depuis Juin 2014, Nathalie Balla est la co-présidente de La Redoute et de Relais Colis, dont elle était auparavant PDG depuis août 2009.

La Redoute est un des leaders français du e-commerce. Donnée pour morte en 2014, La Redoute a réussi sa transformation en se recentrant sur quatre catégories produits (prêt-à-porter femme et enfant, linge de maison et décoration maison) et sur ses savoir-faire internes en matière de style et de design, en construisant un nouvel entrepôt entièrement robotisé, en arrêtant le gros catalogue papier, et en réduisant les effectifs de moitié en France, tout en remobilisant les salariés autour du projet de reprise et l'ouverture du capital de La Redoute à l'ensemble des collaborateurs.

Ainsi en 2017, La Redoute compte près de 2000 salariés et réalise un chiffre d’affaires de 750 millions d’€ dont un quart à l’international.

Nathalie Balla est diplômée de l’ESCP-EAP Paris et Docteur en Sciences Economiques et Financières. Elle a débuté sa carrière en 1989 chez Price Waterhouse Suisse en tant qu'auditeur, période au cours de laquelle elle a réalisé une thèse à l'université de Saint Gall.

En 1992, elle intègre le Groupe Karstadt Quelle, dans l’enseigne Madeleine, dont elle devient Directrice Générale Suisse et Autriche, de 1996 à 1998. Elle rejoint ensuite Quelle Versand (en Suisse) en qualité de Directrice générale, de 1998 à 2001, puis rejoint Quelle et Neckermann AG (en Allemagne) en tant que membre du COMEX en charge du périmètre international de 2001 à 2005. Depuis fin 2005, elle était Directrice générale de Robert Klingel Europe, numéro 4 de la vente à distance en Allemagne.

Nathalie Balla est également Vice Président de la Fevad et de l'UPECAD.

Shanty Baehrel est la fondatrice de la marque éponyme Shanty Biscuits, une marque qui fabrique et vend des biscuits personnalisés en ligne.  

Le Bac en poche, Shanty Baehrel débute sa carrière dans une entreprise spécialisée dans le rétroéclairage high-tech pour l’aéronautique. Pendant 3 ans, elle y apprendra le fonctionnement d’une petite production : gestion des stocks et des livraisons, contrôle qualité, méthodes…

En 2013, Shanty a l’idée d’un concept de biscuits messagers, suite à un tampon à biscuits qu’elle reçoit pour ses 24 ans. Elle commence par faire les biscuits à la main dans son appartement pour s’amuser et les vend sur son site internet. Elle ne prend les commandes qu’en direct et sans intermédiaire, lui permettant d’être rentable dès le premier jour.

Elle intègre l’incubateur The Family pour l’accompagner dans sa croissance et aménage son atelier de production à l’été 2016, à côté d’Aix-en-Provence, où elle réside. Le bouche à oreille et la viralité des biscuits sur Instagram lui permettent de tripler son chiffre d’affaire chaque année uniquement de manière organique.

L’entreprise réalise en 2017 un chiffre d’affaires de 520 000 €, a vendu plus d’1 million de biscuits et emploie aujourd’hui 8 personnes à temps plein.

L’atelier de production devient de nouveau trop petit pour suivre la croissance, un nouveau local de 820m2 est en travaux pour accueillir de nouvelles machines qui lui permettront de sortir de nouvelles offres et d’envisager une boutique à Paris en 2019.

Claudia Sjoberg is the Founder and President of Pedalheads Bike Swim and Sport Programs. Pedalheads provides children aged 2-15 with life skills that develop confidence, independence and a love for activity. Since 1986, more than 350,000 children have participated in Pedalheads programs including 55,000 in 2018. With 100 locations in eleven Canadian and US cities, Pedalheads had over $14 million in revenue in 2018, with 35 full time and 1500 part-time employees. The Company provides young people not only with employment, training and mentorship, but also with the opportunity to develop teaching and coaching skills that impact children’s lives.

Claudia is particularly proud of Pedalheads’ robust giving back program. Everyone in the company including the camp participants participates in “helping” initiatives. Last year the company donated $53,000 to nine neighbourhood houses in Canada and the US as well as provided new bikes, locks, helmets and bike training for over 120 children in need. Pedalheads donated camp gift certificates to 300 community groups and led countless safety presentations and bike rodeos in schools and pre-schools across the regions.

Personally, Claudia has been a lifelong community volunteer and leader. She currently sits on the Board of the Vancouver Fringe Festival and the Board of Cedar Cottage Neighbourhood House. She is a Mentor through the Forum for Women Entrepreneurs and this year was a key-note speaker at their E-series program.

Many years after her UBC undergrad days, Claudia completed her MBA in Management Consulting at Royal Roads University in 2015. She is currently leading her team through a growth strategy across North America, and enjoys the excitement of diving into new cities to discover potential Pedalheads locations.

In 2017, Claudia was the winner of the RBC Women of Influence Canadian Entrepreneur of the Year in the Trailblazer Category. She is also a 2018 finalist for the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year.

Tatiana Bakalchuk is graduated from the university as an English and German language teacher. During her first maternity leave she faced with a lack of time to do the shopping that’s why she came up with the idea to make an e-shop to make the life of mothers of little children more comfortable. In 2004 Tatiana started her business-project from the scratch and now Wildberries e-shop counts more than 2 million customers who make 230 000 - 250 000 orders per day. According to the Forbes rate Tatiana takes 2nd place of the 25 richest women in Russia.

Since 2012, the company has been among the largest players on the Russian e-commerce market, according to Forbes, with its 2017 revenue exceeding RUB 60 billion and the estimated value of the business reaching USD 600 million in 2018. More than 10,000 brands are represented on Wildberries – from clothes and toys to baby food and electronics. Over 2,000 pickup points opened in four countries. About 230,000 to 250,000 orders are made on Wildberries each day, with up to 300,000 daily orders during sales campaigns and the holiday season.

Kiely Maclean is the Co-Founder and President of RJ Maclean.  RJ Maclean is one of four start-up businesses in the RJ Group of Companies creating innovation in the oil and gas sector through improvements to safety and the development of patented equipment to create efficiencies and reduce environmental impact.  Kiely is also currently President and initiator of the RJ Group of Companies.   The mandate of the RJ Group of Companies is to provide foundational resources, through the strength of the group, that would otherwise not be available to emerging businesses.

The RJ method requires that stakeholders reassess not only traditional oilfield service processes, but industry methods as a whole.  In energy, there is significant focus on improving working conditions and environmental consciousness. The group has demonstrated that the environmental impacts in the Energy Sector can be reduced, while improving the client’s bottom line.  RJ Group is, by design, an industry disruptor; as it challenges other industry players to adopt innovative practises that achieve similar results in changing the status quo. 

Kiely has a Business Degree from Acadia University, an International Business Diploma from ICN in France, and a Masters Certificate in Project Management.  She is the recipient of the Young Women in Energy Award, recognized as top 35 under 35 and profiled in Alberta Oil Magazine.  The RJ Group was recognized as one of the top 25 innovators of the year in Alberta Oil and Alberta Venture Magazine.  Kiely was also a previous finalist for the Veuve Clicquot Women in Business Awards in 2016, she has spoken at the Global Petroleum Club and is a member of the MacKay CEO forum.  Volunteering as a mentor for the organization Futurepreneurship, Kiely helps young entrepreneurs develop start-up businesses.  Kiely is passionate about innovation in business, promoting women in the field and leadership.
